It is
the mission of the Highway 17 Association to assure,
through collective action and constancy of purpose,
that the inclusion and funding of all unfunded
portions of the US Highway 17 corridor shall be part
of the NC Department of Transportation’s 2009
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
Since the opening of the Highway 17 Association
offices on October 1, 2006, the Association has made
progress in many areas: Budgeting; Administration;
Government Relations with Federal, State and Local
policy makers; and Public outreach. Specific to its
primary goal to secure funding for previously
unfunded sections of US Highway 17, the Association
has made tangible progress. In the last six months
since the Association offices were opened, an
additional $33.9 million has been committed or
pledged to Highway 17 improvements.
We support our five regional Department of
Transportation Board Members, the DOT administration
and staff, our state legislative delegation and our
Congressional delegation, who have endorsed a fully
controlled access US Highway 17 throughout North
Carolina.
However, if it were not for the constant presence of
the newly invigorated Highway 17 Association we
would not have realized this progress. The
financial support has made this progress possible,
and we can continue to reap such a return on your
investment. |
